February 16, 2010

Clay Hinderliter
Our guest speaker this week was Clay Hinderliter (right) who talked about hunter and gun safety classes.
Clay said there are four classes a year each held over a three night period. "Students must attend all three classes and there's a test at the end" he said.
He's also starting to teach a course for Boy Scouts on shooting sports where he'll instruct the scouts on handling firearms safely and the disciplines associated with them.

February program chairman Ted Pawlias has scheduled Steve Hopper from McDonough District Hospital to be the guest speaker February 23.

March programs:

March 2 - Ed Basch - US Census
March 9 - John Gentry - Macomb Little League
March 16 - Pancake Day Planning
March 23 - Vandemark New Zealand Tour
March 30 - Kiwanis Education

Macomb Kiwanis Pancake Day is Thursday, April 22, at the American Legion building, 221 West Washington.

Meeting Notes

President Debbie Vandemark presided and welcomed new member Heidi Collins. Her membership was approved at the February board meeting. We look forward to having Heidi with us and she's already actively participating on our Pancake Day committee.

We received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Salvation Army to thank us for helping with their annual Red Kettle bell ringing in November and December.

During the March board meeting we'll act on a request for funds from the Boy Scouts, consider making a donation to the Good Hope Playground and the Kiwanis International Skip-A-Meal campaign.

Watch for a flyer in the Macomb Area Chamber of Commerce March newsletter for our Chandler Park Playground project. 550 fliers will be distributed to Chamber members to ask them to buy a brick that will be on display in a patio area near the playground. We're also working on a brochure to help with marketing and promotion of the brick sales. You can see a copy of the flyer by clicking here.

Bowling pins Debbie, Tim, Jeff Paisley, Owen Thompson, Jay Carter, Ken Harp, John Moon and Chris Jones will represent our club at the Division 19 Spastic Paralysis Bowl-A-Thon Saturday, February 27, at Abbe Lanes in Abingdon. Over the years, our division has been successful in raising thousands of dollars for Spastic Paralysis Research. Debbie says they'll carpool it to Abingdon and will leave from the Days Inn parking lot at 11:00 that morning.
