April 6, 2010

Cynthia Fleming and Tamara Parker
Cynthia Fleming (on left) is a Destination Manager and Tamara Parker is a Destination Marketer with the Macomb Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. Their job is to market Macomb as a destination for meetings and they help groups arrange overnight accomodations and meeting locations.

Cynthia and Tamara brought along a "goodie bag" for every member at this weeks meeting that included the latest 2010 Illinois Travel Guide, a souvenir post card depicting a Macomb or McDonough County scene, a brochure about historic county barns and a copy of the new Macomb and McDonough County maps. They said bringing in visitors helps keep the city vibrant.

Next week: April program chairman Heidi Collins will introduce John Vigezzi of Macomb Travel who will talk about the travel industry and transportation.

Pancake Day reminder note

Treasurer Tim Moss said we have signed up more Pancake Day booster sponsors than we did last year with a few still pending. This was the deadline for getting sponsors names in so they can be printed on the placemats that will be at every table. Debbie says we have a lot of volunteers for the morning hours and could use a little more help over the noon hour and in the evening.

Meeting Notes

President Debbie Vandemark presided and recapped last weeks board meeting where a number of actions were taken. Debbie reported that the board approved:
a $200 donation for Project Wee Care playground improvements.
a $400 donation to the Macomb High School band to provide a new outfit for one band member as part of their Operation Band Aid fundraiser to get all new uniforms.
participating in the Kiwanis International Skip A Meal project. We'll pass the hat at next weeks meeting and ask for for a suggested $5 donation from members. Funds will be matched by Kiwanis International and used to satisfy hunger and children in need.

In other board action, Hy Vee has requested five boxes of Kiwanis peanuts to give away during a special promotion. They will buy the peanuts and give us a donation.
For the Kiwanis "One Day of Service", we will count our Junior Olympics as our event. Junior Olympics will be Saturday, May 8, at 1PM. Setup is at Noon.
New member induction ceremony will be May 18.

Upcoming dates:

Friday, April 23, we needed a reader to read books as part of our Picture Book of the Month program and Becky Almon volunteered.
