Guests this week were Ed and Mary Haney with Pat and Waneen Stout. Great news: Pat says both Ed and Mary have turned in membership applications! That's some major points for the Yellow team which is competing with the Blue team in our current membership campaign. Bringing in a new member scores points, getting a member to return and inviting someone to be a member also scores points. The Blue team needs to get busy!
President Tim Moss will host a Board of Directors meeting Thursday, June 11 at his house.
Debbie Vandemark passed around thank you cards from Edison School for our Picture Book of the Month program. The board has approved money to buy more books for Edison and Lincoln Schools next year. She said the kids are very well behaved and pay attention while we read books to them.
Lt. Gov. Pat Stout said Kiwanis leadership training is later this month in the Quad Cities.
Tim, Debbie and Joe Vandemark plan to participate in the Atkinson Kiwanis Club Rolle Bolle tournament June 10.
Owen said we had an Interclub to Carthage. Owen, Debbie, Joe and John Moon all attended and heard a program about the Ft. Madison prison.
Have you ever gotten stuck when trying to answer the question "what is Kiwanis?" Here's a quick 30 second response direct from Kiwanis International.
"Kiwanis International is an international organization of member-volunteers who give more than 6 million hours and more than $100 million each year to help change the world one child and one community at a time. Any community need can become a Kiwanis service project, especially if the need involves children, who should have the help and the right to lead healthy, successful lives. We believe that helping a child helps the world."
