One idea was to get a sunscreen to filter out the evening sunlight and provide shade.
Debbie Vandemark asked about the prices and options available. Paula said you can get anything off the sundae bar for 1.99. There's also a platter available without dessert. The platters would be 7.49 with a choice of different meat selections or 9.49 with buffet. The buffet alone is 8.99. Other options include side orders like chicken breast or soup for 1.99. Paula said she would make out a special menu listing the different options for us to review. She said they could offer different platters each week to provide variety.
One change that we discussed would be that we would order our meals first and then start the actual meeting later. Pat Stout suggested members arrive at 6:00 and order their meal so the meetings would still end about the same time.
Paula said she is working on improving the sliding door to provide more privacy.
The biggest concern is storage space for our banners, podium and other materials. There are some options we may look into. She said we could store the flags in a corner of the room. We would not have room to set up the speakers but probably wouldn't need them anyway. Paula said she is open to us putting a small free standing storage building on the lot, depending on the size. She says we could also put up a Kiwanis sign in front of the restaurant to advertise the fact that we meet there.
Tim Moss said tips would be encouraged for the wait staff which will have to be factored into our costs. Tim also said we would like to make a final decision in the next few weeks and have something in place by the time Debbie takes over as President in October.
Upcoming programs:
August 4 - We will tentatively have an update on the Kiwanis bench project and provide some more facts and figures for members.
August 11 - We will be meeting at Wesley Village for dinner and a tour of their facility. No meeting at St. George's Church that week.
August 18 - Membership Drive Celebration Picnic at Tim Moss's house, 414 South Lafayette. Chicken and soft drinks will be ordered and members are asked to bring a dish to pass around.
President Tim Moss presided. Following the Pledge of Allegiance and Kiwanis Pledge, John Moon led us in singing "Onward In Kiwanis " and Chuck Nicholson gave the invocation.
Tim reminded us we're wrapping up the Membership Drive with a picnic at his house, at 414 S. Lafayette, August 18 instead of meeting at St. George's Church. The losing team members have to bring a dish to pass. Spouses are welcome. We'll need to give Tim an idea of how many will need to attend.
Six members will be attending the I-I District Meeting in August where we plan to have one of our Kiwanis benches on display and hopefully start taking lots of orders.
