A delicious dinner and tour were the highlights of this weeks meeting held at Wesley Village.
Thanks to Administrator Shelley Ward, outgoing Director of Marketing Kim Daudelin and incoming Marketing Director Felicia Roberts for hosting our meeting.
Following a dinner of chicken, roast beef, baked potato, salad and cherry cheesecake (The following is an unsolicited editorial comment: "it was mmmm mmmm good!"), Felicia and Kim guided us through the Wesley Village Retirement Center, Health Care Center and to Eldon and Ilene Snowden's house at Wesley Estates.
Wesley Village has also invited us to consider holding our future meetings there. They said they can set the room up anyway we wish and we would have space to store our flags, banners and assorted materials. They also have a large screen TV and sound system already in place.
Debbie and Joe Vandemark, Owen Thompson, Rick Bulger along with Jay and Chic Carter all volunteered to help out at the 15th annual Wesley Village Ice Cream Social Friday, August 14, from 6-8 PM. Joe and Owen helped park cars, Debbie worked on cleaning up trays and Rick kept his eye on the pie. Musical entertainment featured The King Family from Monticello, Illinois. They performed bluegrass, gospel and contemporary praise songs with a bit of humor mixed in along the way. The Kings seven children range in age from 5 to 20 and played a variety of instruments. (Pictured above are left to right Owen, Debbie and Joe. Rick took the pictures before heading back to watch the pies.)
Upcoming Meetings:
Tuesday, August 18 - We will wrap up our membership drive with a picnic at the home of President Tim Moss, 414 South Lafayette. Tim will order the chicken and soft drinks. Everyone, especially those members of the team that came in second, is encouraged to bring a dish to pass. Tim says it doesn't have to be anything fancy.
Tuesday, August 25 - We will be back at St. George's Church. The program will feature Mark Peterson of Midwest Sales Company. Mark is our playground equipment sales representative and will talk about the playground equipment that we are planning to purchase for Chandler Park. After the meeting, Tim wants to call for a vote of the membership to ratify our proposal to pursue this project. We may also have an Interclub from the Gem City Kiwanis Club of Quincy.
President Tim Moss presided. Following the Pledge of Allegiance and the Kiwanis Pledge, John Moon led us in singing without benefit of a songbook (we got most of the words right) and Chuck Nicholson gave the invocation. A special guest, and prospective member, was Joe Eichacker with Edward Jones.
Tim gave a brief report on last weeks I-I District Convention. He along with Debbie and Joe Vandemark, Pat and Waneen Stout and Owen Thompson represented our club and displayed one of our Kiwanis benches. Tim said they passed out a lot of flyers describing the benches and feels we may get some orders in the next few months.

No Happy Bucks or 50/50 Drawing this week due to our special meeting.
