Based in Quincy, the center has a satellite office in Macomb on the lower level of the First Bankers Trust building at 440 North Lafayette. It is a not-for-profit advocacy center funded by state and federal grants to provide services for people with disabilities.
Ryan says their mission is to promote, increase and improve opportunities for independent living and lifestyle for persons with disabilities within a six-county service area that includes Adams, Brown, Hancock, McDonough, Pike and Schuyler Counties.
He also shared his own personal story about how he went through years of rehabilitation and hospitalization following a high school football injury.
Thanks to September program chairman Susan Thompson for bringing us this articulate and well informed spokesperson for the center.
President Jeremy Benson presided.
John Moon led us in "Let's Sing With Pride " (and we did!)

Tim Moss informed us that 2008-2009 I-I District Governor Gary Heath underwent emergency bypass surgery August 29 in St. Louis. Tim says Gary is doing well and may be home soon. Our best wishes go out to Gary and his wife Pattie. If you would like to send a get well message you can mail it to:

Jeremy - actually a penalty buck since he forgot his nametag at home.
Jay - for a very successful Flags of Love on Labor Day. Another dollar for a special last minute Kiwanis project in Chandler Park. Jay said that, thanks to Owen Thompson and Don Mathis, graffiti on the inside of the gazebo was cleaned up after the flags were taken down.
Debbie - also forgot her nametag, and also wanted to thank Owen for taking a
cancer patient up to Galesburg so she could spend time with a high school
friend.
Owen - one for not taking credit for the graffiti, and another for while
cashing checks at a bank the teller writes "thanks, enjoy your day" on his envelopes. He thought that was nice.
Susan - is September program chairman and has four out of five
weeks filled.
Tim - one for our Gov-elect Gary Heath who felt numbness in his
fingers and underwent five bypasses. Another buck for having 2008-2009 sign up sheets for programs and he needs a program coordinator to oversee each months
programs and remind members they are the monthly chair. He still needs
program chairmen for several months in the new year. Tim also got
a copy of a newspaper article on Bill Roba who talked to us about his
visit to the Ukraine several weeks ago.
The 50/50 Drawing was won by George Hermann who donated his share to
Owen and the Salvation Army.
