Outgoing club President Tim Moss reviewed his year as president. He started out by saying he put together a set of goals at the beginning of his term last year which he called his "able" goals. That stands for Attainable and Ascertainable
His goals were for the club to:
- Win a Distinguished Club Award
- Receive Two "Distinguished Member" Awards
- Receive a Bowl-A-Thon patch
- Receive a Club Website Award
- Receive a Young Children Priority One (YCPO) banner patch
- Receive an Interclub banner patch
- Receive a Spastic Paralysis Research Foundation banner patch
- Reorganize and sponsor a Circle K Club at Western Illinois University
- Charter and sponsor a Builders Club at Macomb Junior High School
- Provide funding for attendance at District and International Kiwanis events
- Win Attendance awards for three club members
- Create a Macomb Kiwanis Club brochure for new member recruitment
So, how did we do? Tim says we attained the Distinguished Club Award through participating in Kiwanis Service Projects such as the new First Lady Project, leadership education and member growth (three new members). Pat Stout partially attained a Distinguished Member Award. We attained awards for the Bowl-A-Thon, Club Website, YCPO, Spastic Paralysis and for the new club brochure.
Tim says we should also attain an Interclub patch and may receive another one for attendance awards. He said we did not attain two of the goals - for sponsoring a WIU Circle K Club and a Builders Club.
He reported we did have other successes during the year including updating the club bylaws, becoming a 501(c)(3) organization with an account at the Moline Foundation, finding a new meeting place at Wesley Village, implementing a revised dues structure and frequent board meetings.
Tim pointed out we still are lacking an overall Program Chairman to coordinate with monthly program chairs and would like to see more members become involved as committee chairs.
He thanked his wife Alice and employer MidAmerica National Bank, Secretary Sue Dexter, Treasurer Jeremy Benson, President-elect Debbie Vandemark and board members Ted Huston, Rick Bulger, Ken Harp, Jay Carter and Owen Thompson.
Tim also thanked several members for making contributions to the club in various ways:
Wayne Mounts for helping to set up meetings
John Moon for being the weekly song leader
Chuck Nicholson for saying the prayer
Rick Bulger for the club website
Jeremy Benson for organizing Pancake Day and Peanut Days
Mike Pritchard for food arrangements at Pancake Day and Breakfast with Santa
Jane Morrow for her help in getting genuine Bob Evans sausage for Pancake Day
Don Mathis for helping with the Kiwanis benches and grill clean-up
Dave Stites for use of the Stites Building for storing benches and pancake griddles
Sue Dexter for keeping track of the gumball machines
Hassan Espahbodi for coordinating the School Snack Lunch program and Shopping with Santa
George Hermann for organizing the Kiwanis/McDonough County Junior Olympics with help from Jeff Paisley and Tim Fitzgerald
Ted Pawlias and Ken Harp for their help with membership recruitment
Jay Carter for coordinating the Flags of Love and "many, many other things"
Owen Thompson for helping plan the new Kiwanis Playground in Chandler Park and organizing a repainting for the existing playground
Debbie Vandemark for setting up the reading programs at Lincoln and Edison Schools
Joe Vandemark for helping with a little bit of everything
Waneen Stout and Mary Haney for the First Lady Project
Jerry Carlson for his help with the Kiwanis Worldwide Service Project
Pat Stout for his year at Lt. Gov., for agreeing to be President-elect and helping to publicize Kiwanis in the newspaper
Gary Sash and Jack Elfrink who, as new members, exhibited enthusiasm for various service projects and helping arrange several excellent programs
Tim also expressed gratitude for everyone that helped with Pancake Day, Peanut Days, ringing the bell for the Salvation Army, Breakfast with Santa, Shopping with Santa, Salvation Army food baskets and for organizing and attending Kiwanis social events. Also thanks to everyone that attended Kiwanis conferences and conventions, the Spastic Paralysis Bowl-A-Thon, helping out with the Boy Scout Day Camp at Spring Lake, Junior Olympics, membership drives, Flags of Love, Kiwanis One Day of Service, Lincoln and Edison reading programs and representing Macomb Kiwanis in a positive way!
President Tim Moss presided at his last meeting as President. Following the Pledge of Allegiance and Kiwanis Pledge, John Moon led us in singing "Boost Kiwanis" and Chuck Nicholson gave the invocation.
Joe Eichacher was back as a guest and says he will be turning in his membership application and Chris Jones was a guest of Hassan Espahbodi who says Chris is also a prospective member. Chris is a new member of the faculty at WIU.
Tim announced that the I-I District magazine, The Illeiowan, will once again be mailed to members. The magazine is also cutting back to four issues a year instead of six.
Tim showed members the new plaque that will be displayed at the Chandler Park gazebo to replace the existing plaque that had been covered over with paint.
The Kiwanis membership roster was passed around one last time so members could update their information before it's printed for the next year.
He reported that we have received more donations to our playground project including $500 from Wayne Mounts on top of the donations of John Moon and George Hermann.
This was our last meeting at St. George's Church. Next week we begin meeting at Wesley Village and our new start time will be at 6:00. Members will pay $8.00 per meal at the meeting or can be
billed for them. Tim says "you will also be able to pay in advance." Part of the new arrangements are that we notify Wesley Village in advance of how many people will be there for the meals. Rick will send out an email and members will need to respond with a "Yes" or "No." As the incoming treasurer, Tim will call those members without email. See you at 6:00 next Tuesday, October 6, at Wesley Village!
