Kiwanis "Peanut Days" are here! There are several openings for this Friday and Saturday at both Hy Vee and Wal Mart from 10:00 AM until 6:00 PM.
We'll be doing this again next week at the same times and same locations.
Jeremy Benson passed around the sign-up sheet and encouraged everyone to give away bags of peanuts in exchange for donations to the club.
Jeremy says "it's been a great fundraiser for us the past few years." We have 60 boxes. There are 100 bags in each box and we would like to get $50 back for each box. A full box sells for $50 for businesses who would like to purchase one, or more. Members can also purchase a box at the same price.
We've already received two $50 donations, one from Chuck Nicholson, the other from John Moon.
Jerry Carlson suggests not giving out bags to kids by themselves due to possible allergies. Check with their parents first. Jeremy says "be sure to bring your supplies and canisters back next week so we can take inventory."
Jay says the bags of peanuts also make great trick or treat handouts!
Tim Weaver of Macomb Haunted Tours was scheduled to be our speaker this week, but was unable to be here.
Next week: Sue Melton of The Diamond Den will add some "sparkle" to our meeting. She will talk about jewelry and give us some ideas for Christmas presents.
President Tim Moss presided.
John Moon led us in singing "How D'ye Do "
Chuck Nicholson gave the invocation
Tim reminded members again about updating our club bylaws and he hopes to vote on the changes by the end of the month.
Jerry Carlson suggested establishing an Executive Committee to backup the Board of Directors when there is not a quorum present, which has been a problem in previous months. The committee would be able to vote on pending issues. Discussion also took place on clarifying membership classifications and putting that information into the bylaws.
Tim read a thank you note from the Soccer Club. We let them use our pancake griddles for a fundraiser.
Get well wishes going out to Lowell Oxtoby who is recovering from surgery related to diabetes. If you would like to send him a note, his address is:

John Moon - had 5 bucks because he is touting the second book written
by his son-in-law Mike Sullivan. The book is called "Online
Predators" and is a guide to keeping kids safe on the internet. John said there will be a book signing Saturday morning at 10:00 at Wesley Village.
Owen Thompson - also had $5 for an enjoyable retreat and another $5 for our incoming president and Lt. Gov and for our immediate past president. Owen also presented Jeremy Benson with a Kiwanis mug as a gift for being 2007-2008 president.
Jay Carter - took a trip Monday to Springfield for the Governor's Hometown Award where Colchester won first place for its Veterans Memorial. "It was a real exciting experience" Jay said. There was a drawing for a larger sign and they won that too. Industry will unveil their monument November 11. Jay said "it's going to be a busy month because the Flags of Love will be displayed on Veteran's Day and John Moon has a birthday."
Pat - told a Peanut Days story. One year, he was real excited
about helping out, everybody took their boxes and it looked like there
were no boxes left. Saturday night, he got a phone call from Chuck
Nicholson wondering where his box was. Pat said he would find one and he did. Then he personally delivered it to Chuck who was out on the golf course.
Tim - put in a $2 IOU from his Peanut Days experience
in the Quad Cities. He says "looks can be deceiving. The people you don't think have money to donate are usually the ones who contribute the most."
The 50/50 Drawing was won by Chuck Nicholson. He donated his share to the Salvation Army.
