Vicky Torreson
Vicky Torreson (right), Vice President of the Macomb Area Chamber of Commerce, spoke about the benefits of Kiwanis becoming a member of the Chamber and how they can help with our playground project. Vicky said some of the benefits of belonging to the Chamber include the ability to have an insert in their monthly newsletter that is sent to all Chamber members, help with marketing and advertising, help promote a healthy local economy, quarterly educational seminars, a Community Leadership Academy and the ability to be a part of their Welcome program which provides new residents with information about the community and its services.

Vicky said it would cost our club $115 per year to be a Chamber member. Debbie says that will discussed at the next board meeting December 1.

We will return to Wesley Village next week and the speaker will be from the Samaritan Well.

Meeting Notes

President Debbie Vandemark presided at Cafe Aroma. Following the Pledge of Allegiance and Kiwanis Pledge, Owen Thompson gave the invocation.

Representing the Macomb School District this week was Rose Platt, the new principal at Lincoln Elementary.

Debbie reported that she, along with Tim Moss, Owen Thompson and Dave Stites all attended an Interclub last Friday at the Galesburg Kiwanis Club Pancake Day

Debbie started passing around a sign up work sheet for Breakfast with Santa on December 5 at MHS. That's where we serve pancakes and sausage for this Lincoln School PTO event and children get to visit with Santa.

Hassan Espahbodi is finalizing arrangements for Shopping with Santa on December 12.

Putting dollars into the Happy Buck-et were:

  • Owen Thompson - Happy to start passing around sign up sheets for the Salvation Army red kettle bell ringing on December 8 and 11 at Farm King and Hy Vee.  The other sign up he had was for the December 22 food basket distribution at Family Video.  Owen also reminded us that Cafe Aroma has a happy coffee hour in the afternoon and a Saturday all you can eat breakfast buffet. Owen also had a special presentation to make to John Moon. He presented John with an autographed copy of the book "Warrior Culture of the U.S. Marines" by Marion Sturky.
  • Pat Stout - Happy to see Vicky Torreson with us tonight.
  • Hassan - Happy to have finished a report for his boss.
  • Jay Carter - Happy that John Moon gave a program at the VFW for Veterans Day. Jay said John did a great job and even sang a song.
  • Ted Pawlias - Happy his Yankees jacket is out of date since his team won the World Series again.
  • Tim Moss - Happy to have attended a past Lt. Gov.'s convention in Bloomington where he met Walker Robb. Walker sends his greetings to our club.
