She works to promote volunteerism throughout the community and says "there's a nationwide effort to encourage more people to volunteer."
Andra hopes to work with the youth in the community to make students more aware of volunteer opportunities, and to encourage agencies she works with to allow high school students to volunteer with them. She is also working on a special event for Martin Luther King Day. She said the Global Youth Service Day in April is another opportunity for students to volunteer. She's very excited about all the things going on in Macomb and hopes her efforts help make a difference.

Updated December 6, 2009
We estimate that about 600 people were served pancakes and sausage Saturday, 12/5, by the Macomb Kiwanis Club for the Lincoln School PTO "Breakfast with Santa." (Click here for pictures. You will need to open with Windows Media Player.) Next Saturday, 12/12, Kiwanis members will be taking children shopping at K-Mart for "Shopping with Santa." Members are also ringing the bell for the Salvation Army and will help fill the Salvation Army food baskets later in December.
Debbie read a thank you letter from Lincoln School Principal Rose Platt who was at the meeting last week and wanted to contribute a happy dollar. She said she enjoyed being at the meeting.
Debbie read an email from former member and president Dick Miller who was asking about our playground project. Tim Moss is still working with different companies trying to get a picture of a proposed brick area around the playground to help publicize the playground and the brick selling project.
Debbie announced that she had talked with last weeks speaker Cathy Rigg of Samaritan Well. Cathy mentioned to Debbie that they have a need for laundry baskets for the mens shelter. Debbie thought they could also use racks to hang clothes after they've been dried and a doormat for the backdoor. If you have something you can contribute, just let Debbie know.
For our Picture Book of the Month program, Debbie will read at Lincoln School on December 17 and Ken Harp will read December 17 at Edison School.
Ken Harp said the Kiwanis International President, Paul Palazzolo, who is from Springfield, has set a goal of one new member each month. Please be thinking of potential new members and invite them to a meeting as our guest and help us grow the club.
